The Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 I8160 doubles on a lot of the specs of its predecessor. For instance, the CPU has an extra core, there is a second camera on board, more than twice the number of pixels on a bigger screen, along with extra RAM, built-in storage and so on.
The Ace 2 dropped by our office and while it can’t stay long, we’ll have enough time for a preview (it’s a pre-production unit anyway). But first things first, it’s time for a quick hands-on video.
The Galaxy Ace 2 I8160 measures 118.3 x 62.2 x 10.5 mm and weighs 122g – bigger than the original, but still a very compact phone. The 3.8″ PLS LCD screen is a huge improvement, especially since the resolution was bumped to WVGA or 480×800 (up from 320×480 on a 3.5″ screen).
The 5MP camera has an LED flash companion and now shoots HD video. There’s also a front-facing camera and 4GB of built-in storage. The microSD card slot on the side of the phone lets you add 32GB of extra storage.
Anyway, the processing credentials of the Ace 2 are more than just entry level – a dual-core processor at 800MHz, 768MB RAM and a Mali-400MP GPU (like on the S II). The phone comes with v2.3 Gingerbread and TouchWiz 3.0 on top. It feels very snappy and later we intend to throw it in the obstacle course for some benchmarking.
The connectivity capabilities of the Ace 2 include a dual-band 3G with 14.4Mbps HSDPA, Wi-Fi b/g/n (with DLNA and Wi-Fi Direct extras), a GPS receiver with GLONASS support and optional NFC connectivity.
Well, that’s it for now, we’ll explore the Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 I8160 in more detail in the upcoming preview.
